4th of July, 2016

 There is a lot to love about Summer - backyard BBQ, city park picnics (also BBQ), municipal swimming pools, frisbee, baseball, fireflies and so much more - but the moment everyone looks forward to is a single 20 minute segment in early July, and you already know what it is.

But in the Smokies of East Tennessee, the magic of the 4th of July isn't just 20 minutes after sundown, it lasts the whole day starting 5 minutes after 11:55PM on July 3rd with the Midnight Parade in downtown Gatlinburg. This parade has been a tradition in Gatlinburg for years and years and for more than an hour, you and the whole family can watch an amazing patriotic parade - and that just BEGINS the 4th of July celebration!

Then after that, starting at 10:00AM is the River Raft Regatta at Christ in the Smokies in downtown Gatlinburg where you can race any unmanned, floatable objects toward the goal at Ripley's Aquarium. This event is sponsored by the City of Gatlinburg Special Events Office and the Gatlinburg Recreation Department.

In Pigeon Forge, Patriot Park is having Patriot Fest at 12:00PM. The whole park becomes a center of activity with a huge sound stage, lots of activity, food tents, cooling off station, music by half a dozen acts on the stage that is specifically built for the occasion (headlined this year by singer-songwriter Joe Diffie) and much more that go on until the fireworks start between 9:30PM and 9:45PM. The fireworks in Gatlinburg start at 10:00PM and if you're already downtown, you won't have to go far. The fireworks in Gatlinburg are designed to be seen from anywhere on the downtown sidewalk.

Wilderness Wildlife Week

New Developments in the Smokies For April 2016

Have you been to Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mountains lately? If not, here's a whole bunch of new stuff in or coming in this season you should check out.

* New Publix
2016 seems to be the year of the grocery store! At least it feels that way with the new Publix grocery store coming to downtown Pigeon Forge right next to Wears Valley road. We've already seen increased competition from Krogers and Food City to gear up for it, and that means visitors and local consumers win all the way around!

* Goat Coaster
Goats On the Roof on Wears Valley Road has been one of those success stories where no one really saw it coming or expected it would be as big a hit as it is, but it has, and now the attraction is expanding to offer an alpine coaster on the premises as part of their "one-stop-fun" approach. http://thecoastertn.com/

* Cal Ripkin Experience
This project was long in the making on Teaster Lane and it's finally open! The Cal Ripkin Experience is a sports complex with six baseball fields (made with synthetic turf), a 14,137 square foot clubhouse, a concession stand and more. * Pearl Harbor Ripley's Aquarium
Ripley's Aquarium keeps things fresh by having one section of their Aquarium change with new exhibits and themes, and this Spring we will see that exhibit turn into Pearl Harbor. * Retro Running Weekend in the Smokies

Can you believe we've never had a Chipotle in Sevierville before? It's true, but these days we're getting all kinds of new restaurants and chains we'd never had before and Chipotle is a welcome addition to our local palatte.

* Dolly Parton's Lumberjack Adventure Dinner and Show
The Lumberjack Feud was/is such a good show that the same management company owning Dollywood and Dixie Stampede decided to add it to their high quality brand of entertainment. * New Show at Iris Theater in Gatlinburg
Starting on March 17th, the Iris Theater at the Space Needle complex welcomes The Impossibilities magic show featuring magical comedian Chris Collins and master mentalist Erik Dobell. * New Escape Game in Gatlinburg
If 2016 is anything, it's the year of the Escape Game, or rather the year of the grocery store AND the Escape Game, and the new one coming to downtown Gatlinburg is The Captured coming to the base of the Space Needle. * New Zaxbys in Gatlinburg
The city of Gatlinburg has surprisingly few chain restaurants when it comes to quick-service food, so it was a very pleasant surprise when Zaxbys moved into the ground level of the Mountain Mall. Up until now, the closest one was all the way out on Highway 66 towards Sevierville. A welcome edition and convenient place for food.

The city of Pigeon Forge hosts a very popular festival in which over 20,000 visitors participate in many classes and seminars, and view some of the most gorgeous quilts in the country. Easter Sunrise Service at Ober Gatlinburg

It's that time of the year when it's not really a time of the year at all - the big holidays are over with, the mountains are bare, and things are quiet for the most part until mid-March... but don't go thinking that this some sort of despondent time for the Smokies. The low traffic and even lower temperatures afford those who choose to come out the opportunity to enjoy East Tennessee at it's most solemnly dignified. No color in the hills, but they project a haunting beauty all the same, and the atmosphere lends itself well to romantic getaways and vacations you couldn't take during the holidays because the holidays themselves were no holiday at all!

Such are just a few examples of why you should consider a trip to the Smoky Mountains here in January. If you'd like some more, consider the following:

Winterfest Kickoff in Pigeon Forge 2015

Next week, the city of Pigeon Forge will celebrate the upcoming Winterfest season with an event at the Old Mill in the center of downtown Pigeon Forge.

on November 10th, Pigeon Forge will be bringing Christmas and holiday spirit to Patriot Park right next to the Old Mill Square complex. This is a free event that all are invited to intend starting at 4:00PM. There will be live music entertainment featuring the Pigeon Forge Community Chorus, Boogertown Gap, Hills-N-Hollows and Lost Mill String Band, a children's games area, and then once the sun goes down and the million-dollar lighting displays go on. Fourth of July Events in Pigeon Forge For 2015

It's that time of the year everyone looks forward to from the start of June to the 4th of July and we want to invite you out to Wears Valley and Pigeon Forge to spend it with us in the Smokies!

Pigeon Forge is where you want to be for that magical day and Patriot Park is where all the action is going on. The entire park becomes a family picnic and fun park. Inflatable attractions for the young'uns, food tents, cooling down stations, and the entire Old Mill complex to enjoy. There is a huge soundstage erected at the North end of the park where there will be entertainment and music almost nonstop throughout the day culminating with a performance from headlining act Diamond Rio.

Then, between 9:30-9:45PM, the big show will start. For more than 15 minutes, the fireworks will explode over the park in an amazingly colorful display you'll remember for years. Well worth the visit to the Smokies to enjoy!

Dollys Homecoming Parade and Sevier County Days 2015

Looking for some affordable entertainment in the Smokies to enjoy with the family? Come out this weekend where we have two events going on in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

The first one is next Friday, May 1st, where Pigeon Forge will be holding the annual Dolly Homecoming Parade between Stoplights #6 and #3 on the main parkway at 6:00PM. This is a city-wide effort where dozens of floats, locals and business owners all march down the main street of the city with Miss Dolly herself following close behind. www.mypigeonforge.com/events/dolly-parade/

The second one starts the following Sunday, May 3rd, and goes on to Thursday, May 7th. Ripley's in Gatlinburg will be holding "Sevier County Days", where locals and visitors who live or work in Sevier County, Jefferson County, and Cocke County can get into any Ripley's attraction, including the Aquarium, Haunted Adventure, Guinness World of Records, any of them for only $5 a person. And money that goes to Ripleys goes on to the Sevier County Food Ministry as well. www.ripleysgatlinburg.com.

Spring in the Smokies 2015

Praise our maker, Spring has sprung here in the Smokies! The Dogwoods are exploding into popcorn trees, the colors are blooming all across the motor and hiking trails, the temperatures are as comfortable as we'll see all year, and it's a prime to consider coming out to the Smokies for a vacation.

Need an additional reason? Ok, how about that Dollywood is now open with Festival of the Nations? This is the 30th anniversary of the park becoming Dollywood and there will be new things being offered throughout the year (including the huge new DreamMore Dollywood Resort).
